Fudge, Migraines and Stew

Ridiculously I am in the midst of making chocolate fudge and savoury stew. Why?? Comfort food baby. It's cold and we love food in this house when we are cold. As we are heading into the gluten free stage of our lives I haven't done any baking all week and Blair is getting a bit of a rumble on for a sugar hit so . . . being the lovely fiance that I am, have decided to give fudge a crack. Have never made fudge. Have made fudge slice but never made good old fashioned plain chocolate fudge and I'm thinking it's not going to turn out. It's looking very runny and I think the fact I only had caster sugar and lite milk may not work in my favour. Oh well, will always be nice on top of ice cream if it doesn't work out.

Had a mellow weekend, when don't I?? I have decided that I love Country Calendar!! Sad as it may seem, I love hearing about what rural NZers are up to as I plan to be a rural NZer one day. I have dreamt of living on a farm since I was a wee tacker and lately, this programme is fuelling the desire even more. So, to all of you that have been out partying, you don't know what you have missed out on.

And migraines, who gets them?? I have never had one until Thursday and have had them four days in a row now. Starts with a little crescent shaped disco light in my left eye, progresses to the whole outside of the left eye and then I get a really bad headache. WTF?? Why??????????????????????

As for the stew, you buggers will be wishing you were at my house for this one, blade steak, left to bubble away for a couple of hours in curry powder, beef stock (the real stuff), all spice, mustard powder and ginger with a dash of tomato sauce and vinegar. It is going to melt on my tongue with mashed potatoes.

I love Country Calender too! I used to groan and roll my eyes when my Dad dared to have a turn with the tv, but now it's so interesting! And mmmm that stew sounds good!

You haven't started on any hormonal contraception have you? Not being nosy but I know some pills can trigger focal migraines, and if they do, it isn't safe to be on them. *Little Miss know it all says*. Migraines are nasty though - ugh you poor thing!

I'm a Violet ... "You have a shy personality. You tend to hesitate before trying new things or meeting new people. But once people get to know you, you open up and show the world what you are really all about."

Hmmmmm the first two sentences doesnt sound like me at all ... actually the old 175kg Leenie was just that - shy and hesitant ... thats changed heaps!

Oh yum - the stew sounds fabulous! There's nothing better than having the warmth of the oven with beautiful smells wafting on a cold winters day - low fat smells of course! Hope the fudge turns out well.

You are a masochistic Tart! Beef stew and mashed spuds, and chocolate fudge!!! Bugger me, I need to get down there and swipe ya one.... not fair! I would never ever dream of making fudge.. one taste and there'd be none left... hope you eat the lot and feel ill! REally, I hope you don't! Leave it for the kids and Blair, they won't regret it the minute it's gone down... like you and I would. Have a great day.

I looooove beef curry. I stick all that stuff in a crockpot and come home to a very nice smelling house.

It's WW friendly too!

How was it?

Hey, I just got a call from my kids'kindergarten saying I am the only mum who has handed in a recipe for the Mother's Day Recipe Book they are making for all the mum's at kinder. Could I possibly get your fudge and stew recipe from you?? That'd be cool if you could share them :)
I love the country too, having grown up rural I would give my left eye to live back in the country, even deeper than before even!! My boys could ride their motorbike and I could get the girls a horse :)

Hey Jules

I saw your comment on Peaches & Cream that you are reading "If not dieting, then what?" I just finished it and thought it was awesome, so good in fact that I am about to re-read it immediately :o)

Feel free to email me if you want to compare thoughts about it.

Migraines. Yep. I get them. You might not have had 4 migraines but one long one. If I don't have meds the pain stays for about 3 days. Aspirin does nothing for them. Get meds. My friend uses Imitrex (sp) nasal spray. Loves it. I need to get it b/c my meds don't work for me anymore. My triggers are PMS, the sun and sometimes nuts.

Fudge? Yum! If only I lived around the corner from you. There's nothing like homemade fudge. I hope it worked out in the end. Unfortunately I think with fudge, you gotta use all the "fat" stuff LOL.

In regards to the migraine, what's different in your routine? Mine are often food related and I find I haven't been drinking my water. They really REALLY suck. Don't get them as much as I used to, thank goodness. I hope you feel better soon or go to the doctor!
